Is it true that the more horrifying the crime, the more likely a jury is to find the defendant guilty?

Juries make decisions based upon emotion, not facts. As any prosecution or defense attorney will confirm, facts simply do not matter in a jury trial. That's why jury trials are inherently unfair and rarely arrive at the correct verdict.
